Forthcoming author events:

We are delighted to welcome two authors, who have both written excellent London history books, for an evening of readings and Q&A about our wonderful city.

Peter Watts & Rob Baker
Wednesday November 2nd, 7pm

Up in Smoke : The Failed Dreams of Battersea Power Station by Peter Watts

Battersea Power Station is one of London's favourite buildings - this is the first book to explore the life of the building, from conception and construction, through use and obsolescence, and then into the long years of post-closure redevelopment.

This is a book that tells us so much about London and the way it changes. It's a story of power and land, of big ideas and broken dreams. It's a story that takes in property and politics, architecture and popular culture. It's a story about our city and our relationship with its most popular building.

Beautiful Idiots and Brilliant Lunatics : A Sideways Look at Twentieth-Century London by Rob Baker

Beautiful Idiots and Brilliant Lunatics explores fascinating stories from our capital in the twentieth century, written by Robert Baker, author of the popular blog Another Nickel in the Machine. From the return of local hero Charlie Chaplin to the protests that blighted the Miss World competition in 1970, the book covers the events and personalities that reflect the glamorous, scandalous, political and subversive place London was and is today.

Free event, all welcome - Wednesday 2nd November, 7pm
